The Rochdale Creates Space page provides you with a one-stop-shop directory of creative spaces in our borough – whether you’re looking for a long term base to work from, or a one off space to meet or host a workshop.

Our aim is simple – to make it as easy as possible for you to access the spaces you need, no booking fee, commission or hidden charges, we’re here to make your life easier. Our Space Delivery Programme

Our space delivery programme is focussed on refurbishing vacant or underutilised town centre buildings as creative / visitor focussed spaces that deliver against key culture and placemaking priorities, and help drive footfall and activation in our town centres.

The model is initially focussed on attracting external investment to open up vacant council buildings, but has a longer term aim of supporting landlords to open up vacant spaces for meanwhile space to drive town centre activity.

Importantly, this model is about empowering our boroughs creatives to take charge of these spaces, allowing our sector to help shape its own future in response to local need. This model is aligned to Rochdale Borough Councils commitment to ‘Community Wealth Building’, a people-centred approach to local economic development, which redirects wealth back into the local economy, and places control and benefits into the hands of local people.

We have recently completed Phase 1 of Rochdale Creates Space, ‘Richard Street Studios’, which has seen a vacant building refurbished as creative workspace, run by local creative CIC ‘Breaking Barriers’. Phase 2 will see the former Butterworths Jewellers refurbished as creative workspace, and is currently out as an open call to find a lead tenant.

We are also in the process of developing feasibility studies to lay the groundwork for opening up other vacant buildings – watch this (creative) space!
