November is Discover Creative Careers Month, and it’s all about opening doors to the exciting world of creative industries for young people across the UK. Whether it’s film, fashion, museums, music, design or digital media, this initiative is helping to make creative careers more visible, accessible and inclusive. 

Funded by the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS), Discover Creative Careers is an industry-led programme working to grow and diversify the talent pipeline into creative roles - and Rochdale is proudly getting involved. 

What’s Happening in Rochdale? 

Throughout November, events will be taking place nationwide to give young people a glimpse into the creative world — and here in Rochdale, there’s plenty going on. 

• Touchstones Rochdale is teaming up with Rochdale Youth Services and Pinc College to offer behind-the-scenes insights into careers in cultural venues like museums and galleries. 

• Create Rochdale partners will be sharing updates online about new creative careers programmes and initiatives happening throughout the year, made possible by funding from Arts Council England’s Place Partnership Fund. 

   

Want to Get Involved? 

If you’re a creative professional or employer in the borough, there’s still time to support the next generation of Rochdale creatives. Here are a few ways you can take part: 

Host a Work Placement 

Offer a young person the chance to gain hands-on experience in your workplace. Tina Hogarth, Work Placement Co-Ordinator (Creative Industries), can help match you with the right candidate and set everything up.

Visit a School or College 

Create Rochdale is building a list of careers events in local schools and colleges. If you’d like to talk to students about your creative job or organisation, let them know - they’ll help you find the right opportunity. 

Host an Event 

Open your doors or host an online talk to give young people a real-world look at creative careers in Rochdale. The Discover Creative Careers website has tips and resources to help you plan and promote your event. 

Share Resources 

Positive Steps has created a digital Creative Careers Information Hub on Padlet, packed with useful links and resources for people in Rochdale exploring creative pathways.
