Cartwheel Arts need your vote — and here's why it matters.Â
A banner made by Art & Soul artists who use visual art to support mental health and wellbeing — has been selected for A Response to Mental Health, an online exhibition by the Chinwe Russell Art Gallery. Â
Art & Soul’s, A Stitch in Time is a collective textile piece created in response to the question — what best supports your mental health and wellbeing? The answers, stitched and drawn in fabric and pen, pinpoint the importance of art, nature and community.
The piece was made at a difficult moment for the group, following the loss of beloved member Pat Clarke. The artwork became a way to grieve together, share memories, and remind each other that creativity is a safe space — especially when times are hard.
A Stitch in Time was made with the support of facilitator artist Alex Blakey.
It's a huge achievement for Art & Soul: open exhibitions are hard to get into, and this is a chance for Art & Soul's work to be seen by thousands — and to be part of a conversation that destigmatises mental health and champions the importance of arts in recovery and as a route to better mental health.Â
First prize is £400. If Art & Soul wins, the prize money will pay for a gallery trip for the group. Gallery visits can be daunting due to psychological and physical barriers, as well as cost.
We believe that access to art shouldn't depend on your circumstances.
Public voting closes on Friday 26 June.
