Kevin Malone is an Anglo-American composer who spans genres and media beyond conventional labelling, with works brimming with polystylistic sophisticated character, expressivity and surprise.
He is equally at home with electronics, multimedia, film, installations, concert platforms and theatres, operas, cabarets, choirs, bands and orchestras. For 35 years, Kevin's work has embraced hybrid approaches in communicating social, environmental, and global issues, long recognising the importance of art in community expression and resilience.
Kevin has composed 20 feminist pieces for piano, ranging from beginner piano pieces to virtuoso concert works. His full-length Mark Twain-inspired opera has had three productions in the UK and internationally. Kevin's film composition credits include the feature films To Kill a Killer and Lockout (distributed by Warner Bros), Manchester International Festival’s 2007 film The Assembly (Sadler's Wells, Channel 4), Still I Rise (HOME and international screenings) and Streets Like These.
His music is available on four solo profile CDs and 12 additional discs. Kevin has garnered enthusiastic comments from the press across numerous television and radio broadcasts (especially on the BBC), interviews and performances in six continents, and at the ISCM. He strongly believes in social music-making and community outreach as a means of keeping humanity at the centre of art, and art at the centre of society.
Kevin has published over two dozen articles on subjects ranging from the need for more feminist concert programming to harpsichord music, and taught as Professor of Composition at the University of Manchester for 25 years, where he established the digital computer music studios since 2001. His work is published by Composers Edition, with CDs of his work on Naxos, Centaur, Métier, Campion, ASC Classics, Divine Art, Prima facie and Coviello labels, with extensive reviews available at https://www.kevinmalonecomposer.com/reviews.
